Julia Cohen

Julia Anne Cohen is a soprano, a Presidential Scholar and student of Ms. Jane Eaglen at the New England Conservatory of Music, studying vocal performance and acting.

Julia played the lead role of Ada in the one-act opera Enchantress by Kamala Sankaram, at MSM. She has studied at the Chautauqua Voice Institute and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, where she was the first student ever chosen to perform a solo aria in the Honors Recital at Ozawa Hall.Julia is an NPR From the Top Finalist.

She is an avid performer in the adult regional 90 Miles Off Broadway Theater Company, and has played the lead roles of Jo March (Little Women), Jane Eyre (Jane Eyre, the Musical), and Katrin Hanson (I Remember Mama), as well as Éponine (Les Misérables) at NEC.

Participant of Chamber Singers, Jazz & Contemporary Improvisation Ensembles, she is recording a debut album of original compositions. Julia loves to dance, do yoga, play tennis, and hike.

Training

Before attending college she was a student of Mr. Giuseppe Spolitini at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College Program (four years), where she was the recipient of the prestigious International George London Scholarship (twice) and the Donald Read and Carl Owen Scholarships.

In the summer of 2017, she performed with the New York Lyric Opera Festival in the role of First Lady in The Magic Flute, with performances at The National Opera Center and Weill Hall - Carnegie Hall. Previous summers include acting classes at Stella Adler in NYC, studies at the Chautauqua Voice Institute as one of only two High School students accepted, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute scholarship student, where she was the first student ever chosen to perform a solo aria in the Honors Recital at Ozawa Hall.

Hiking! I grew up on a mountain, so whenever I have a free moment you will most likely find me outside. Being with friends, and cooking, or trying new types of food. Reading, writing in her journal, or playing around on my ukulele and writing new songs.

One fun item on my bucket list

Hopefully in the next few years I will run a half marathon (I just need that little extra time to train a little more).
